Spinone Dog (confirmed introduction)
The Spinone is one of the oldest dog breeds in Italy and is an all-purpose hunting dog. Although there were records of fresh-haired hounds in 500 BC, the Spinone Dog did not appear until the 13th century. It can be seen from the oil paintings of the Renaissance that in the 15th and 16th centuries, the bristle-haired watch dogs were very popular.
The Spinone Dog is a mixture of Italian Setter and White Mastiff or French Griffon. The most obvious feature is that it is not much different from their ancestors. It has been an outstanding hunting dog for hundreds of years, but it gradually declined during the 20th century. The Second World War worsened the decline of this dog. By 1950, they were almost destroyed.
However, in the 1950s, a group of hunters began to focus on recovering the dog. It turned out that their efforts were not in vain. Today, Spinone dogs are found in most of Europe. The regions are very fluid.
