Morphological Characteristics of the Red-spotted Bandicoot Spider
Red-spotted Bandicoot Spider

The body color of the red-spotted spider is mainly black, so it is also known as the black widower. Male spiders have red freckles. The bite of this spider often goes unnoticed, as the bite resembles a pinprick, so even if you are bitten, you may not notice it.
Female spider body length is 8.7 mm. The cephalothorax is 3.3 mm long and 3.2 mm long; the abdomen is 5.3 mm long and 4.3 mm wide. The carapace is yellow-brown, densely covered with short black hairs, and the two side edges are light black brown. There is an upside-down "W"-shaped notch in the center, and an almost circular central fossa in front of it. The radiation ditch is light black. The chest is slightly higher than the head. Both eye rows are concave in the back, and the eyes are arranged equidistantly in the front. The distance between the posterior and middle eyes is smaller than the distance between the posterior and middle eyes, and the lateral eyes are separated. The front side of the middle eye area is smaller than the back side, and is ten times wider and longer. The area between the eyes and the forehead is concave, and the lower half of the forehead exceeds the front. The height of the forehead is about 5 times the diameter of the front and middle eyes. The chelicerae are dark brown, with a yellowish-brown vertical stripe in the middle of the front. The chelicerae are small, and both the front and rear denticles have no teeth. The jaw lobes, lower lip and breast plate are all light black brown with dense black fine hairs. The legs are dark brown, with many fine hairs and no thorns. The abdomen is oval and densely covered with yellowish-brown hairs. The back is black and shiny, with 2 red arc-shaped horizontal spots before 1/3 of the front line, and a large mushroom cloud-shaped red spot before the center of 2/3 of the back. The ventral surface of the abdomen is black, with a diamond-shaped red spot in the center, and later an oval red short horizontal spot. The lingula is large, and the length of the bristles on it is about 1 times the length of the lingula.
