Black-orbited Toad
Black-orbited toads are generally larger and have rough skin. Except for the top of the head, which has no warts, the rest of the body is full of pimples. It is also known as the toad. The average body length of an adult male toad is about 63mm. The body length of an adult female toad should be 96mm.
Physical characteristics
The posterior gland of the black-orbited toad is larger and oblong. The ventral surface is densely covered with small warty columns. All warts have black-brown thorns. The body color is generally yellow-brown, with irregular brown-red spots. There are dark gray spots on the creamy yellow color of the ventral chest and abdomen.
Appearance description
The biggest appearance characteristic of the black-orbited toad is that it has a black bony ridge starting from the snout, which spreads along the eye and nose glands to the upper eyelids and directly to the top of the sac. , producing a black eye socket, hence the name. The body size is from ordinary to large, showing obvious sexual dimorphism. The average body length of males is 50 to 60 mm, and that of females can reach 90 mm or more. There are various different body colors. The back is mostly yellow-brown or gray-black, and the upper part is full of dark-brown mottled spots. The abdomen is milky-yellow with rough skin. The snout is blunt and rounded, the head is slightly broad, and there are black lines around the left and right jaws. The vocal sac is hidden inside when swallowed. There are sausage-shaped post-auricular glands behind the eyes, and the membranes are obvious. Except for the head, the whole body is covered with warts or nodules of various sizes. The warts and nodules have black horny spines. When startled, in addition to the white venom exuding from the glands behind the ears, the warts all over the body will also exude venom in self-defense. The forelimbs are slender, while the hind limbs are stubby and round. They are only half-webbed and have black fingertips.
